Not For You is a curiously dark yet irresistibly magnetic take on guitar rock. Tonally, the songs are set against a pervasive murk— made of equal parts doom, shoegaze, and no wave. The Chicago project is comprised of Lindsey Sherman (vocals / guitar), Michael Dunne (bass), and Pasha Petrosyan (drums). Sherman’s blooming vocals float above the song like a dream that quickly torrents into nightmarish maelstroms at peak turbulence. The rhythm section is dynamic, shifting, and accomplished; propelling catchy melodies to crash against the heavy waves of an overwhelming wall of sound. NOT FOR YOU deconstructs pop music to the point of annihilation and then jolts it back to life in a strobing drama.
